The AIProHealth – Data Science and AI in Health Summer School 2025 coming to Heidelberg! It will be held from
11 – 15 August 2025 on-site at Heidelberg University.

Our partner, the University of Tartu, Estonia will host their on-site program at the same time. The University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), Netherlands will take place earlier, from June 30 – July 4, 2025.

Why choose the AIProHealth Summer School?
Rapid advancements in data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) call for a new generation of clinicians and (clinical) scientists, who are able to develop and introduce new prediction models and treatment strategies in healthcare. Therefore, Heidelberg University, OnevisionHealthcare GmbH, the UMCG and the University of Tartu cooperate closely to organize the AIProHealth Summer School in all three locations.

In the near future, data science and AI will cause major shifts in the way health research is conducted, and care is provided. The expected growth rates make data science a powerful driver of innovation in all disciplines of healthcare and healthcare research.

Heidelberg is home to Germany’s oldest and one of the most prestigious universities – Heidelberg University with its world class University Clinic. Our location provides cutting-edge research, thriving AI and Health Tech ecosystems, alongside deep-rooted cooperation with research facilities all over world. This unique combination makes Heidelberg Germany’s number one start-up city.

Our target audience
This Summer School is open for students, PhDs, post-docs, and working professionals from any discipline, who have a specific interest in biomedical sciences, data science and AI.

Our aim is to introduce young, enthusiastic researchers to the principles of data science and AI in healthcare as well as clinical research. Participants will be guided through various aspects of data science, such as setting up and implementing a project. This includes both the collection and cleaning of data, as well as the practical conduct of an initial (machine learning) analysis of the collected data. The data science assignments will be executed in an online web environment (Jupyter Notebooks).

Before the start of the course, participants will be required to complete an online Datacamp course to teach them basic skills that will be useful when participating in the Summer School. In addition to this, a MOOC on FutureLearn will provide participants with a shared baseline understanding of concepts of AI in healthcare.

In addition to the educational program with engaging lectures and workshops by professionals in the field of data science and AI, we offer a dynamic social program designed to help participants connect and build meaningful relationships.
